Fun Red Hat Events
February 28th, 2010 by Roger Bailey
Costumes are meant to be used, especially ones as fun as 50’s poodle skirts. Red Hat Ladies would agree. Donning a purple 50’s poodle skirt can really set a Red Hatter apart during the different events that are hosted each year. Below are just a few more examples of ways Red Hatters have celebrated life with their events.
Parades are a popular choice for many Red Hat events. The LPGN Ladybugs, of Florida, decided to be part of the “Keepers Day” parade. They dressed up in full garb and rode through the streets in a trolley. A purple 50’s poodle skirt could have been a good choice for this type of event.
In Alberta, Canada the Red Hot Mamas decided to enter a float in their town’s parade. They designed the float to be a huge red hat. They ended up winning 1st prize in the parade.
Perhaps the most brave of the slew of paraders were a group of Red Hatters from England. The weather was minus 3 degrees Celsius, but the women still braved on and watched the Straw Bears Parade in Whittlesey, England. The Straw Bears Parade is a parade where members of the community dress up in straw costumes and parade around the streets after midnight.
In Michigan, the Scarlet Widows chapter made a trip aboard the only tallship in Grand Traverse Bay, Manitou. They enjoyed having their event in the galley of the ship. The Scarlet Widows had a lot of fun aboard ship.
Events do not always need to be done with your specific chapter. In Ajijic, Mexico, five Queens decided to get together for lunch at the banks of the gorgeous Lake Chapala, Mexico. They all originally were from Canada or the United States, and had moved to Ajijic for retirement in sunny Mexico.
Texas hosted a very special event. Two chapters participated in the Wreaths Across America, in Ft. Bliss, Texas. The event honors fallen veterans, and they have high hopes of even more Red Hatters participating in the event next year.
These are only a few stories of events Red Hat sisters have participated in. If you would like to see more fun stories visit the Red Hat Society website.
