Every woman wants to look and feel gorgeous and sexy, including larger women. Fortunately clothing designers have awakened to the fact that there’s a whole market full of big, beautiful women shopping for equally beautiful plus size lingerie.

Until recently, and even now in some cases, it can be difficult for women to find beautifully made plus size lingerie that fits well. However, there are online vendors and specialty stores that carry plus size lingerie that’s perfect for any woman blessed with curves.

Start by getting your exact measurements. It’s a good idea to get a friend to help you take your measurements, because some of them, such as a proper bra size, can be difficult to determine on your own. For instance, did you know that some 80 percent of American women wear the wrong size bra? That’s because they haven’t had a good fitting. You can even go to a specialty shop that carries plus size lingerie and ask a saleswoman to take a fitting for you.

Record your measurements and keep them with you when you go shopping. Remember, it’s not the size that matters, but the fit. Don’t get hung up if you seem to need a larger size in one manufacturer’s clothes than you do in another designer’s. Different manufacturers cut their clothes differently and size them differently, so don’t get anxious.

Now decide on what garments you need. For instance, if you have a big holiday party coming up, get your outfit first and then buy the undergarments that will enhance your look. That way you won’t be searching at the last minute for a strapless bra or other special garment.

What comes after the basics? How about a silky smooth kimono robe that feels heavenly against your skin? Make sure it’s a little loose on you; in fact, none of your undergarments should bind in any way.

Keep your measurements handy whenever you shop. That way you can accurately compare the different dimensions of various sizes and styles. Your measurements also will help you determine your body type. You might have an hourglass figure, with a waist significantly smaller than your bust and hips. Your shape might be more of an inverted pear, with large breasts and smaller legs. Or you could be a classic pear shape with larger hips and a smaller bust. Trying on various lingerie styles in the store will help you determine what flatters your figure best.

The same rule applies to black lingerie as well. As sexy as black can be, especially when it’s lace or silk, only wear your black undies beneath dark colored clothes. Nothing is as unbecoming as underwear that shows through your clothes.

Consider also whether you can use a body shaper. Body shapers aren’t necessarily the all-in-one solution they’re promoted to be, because they can smooth out one area but cause bulges in another. The right one can make clothes look better, however, so it’s worth trying on several. A good option is a body shaper that covers you from bust to just above the knees and comes with clear straps.
