Fair and White Products. Is It Worth It?

The Fair and White Product lines by the Labo Derma company in France are widespread internationally, although most products may be hard to obtain and expensive. Most of these products are customized for the needs of ethnic and colored skins and are known to reduce skin blemishes and even out skin tones. These products also help eradicate brown spots and other forms of pigmentation. Among its most famous product is its Whitening Cream that contains what they call the “F.A.W. Lightening” formula.
Hydroquinone may be present in Fair and White products. That ingredient - being effective as a skin lightener - was found to be harmful when used for a long time despite. The Fair and White Whitening Cream contains it in a small amount of 1.9%.
Fair and White Whitening Cream may also contain certain ingredients that are potentially dangerous with prolonged used. These include stearic acid, methylparaben and propylene glycol. These chemicals are found in the formulation and while they are widely used in a number of cosmetic products, they are still known to cause various side effects particularly when the concentrations are not regulated.
Stearic acid is a byproduct from fatty substances that are derived from pig stomachs as well as from fat coming from cows, sheep, cats and dogs. It is commonly used in cosmetics such as deodorants, creams, conditioners, hairspray, lubricants and soap among others and can cause skin irritations even when it occurs at low concentrations.
Another ingredient to be concerned about is propylene glycol, which is basically non-toxic and is also used in cosmetic products. However, it is still thought of to be a carcinogen and a skin irritant if its usage is uncontrolled.
Finally, methylparaben has also been proven to raise skin toxicity when dosage is not regulated. Citro tests administered on mammalian cells also show that the ingredient can cause cell mutation.
