Make A Permanent Move to Waves and Fuller Body
September 27th, 2009 by Susan Bishop
Question: I want the volume, look of glamor and more movement to my hair. How can I get that?
Believe it or not a thoroughly modern perm is the way to get all that. Any more the perming process has evolved. No harsh chemicals like your grandmother may have had to resort to. A soft wave can be amazingly gentle on your hair. Here are some tips to remember if you are looking to add curls or waves this way.
Better Hair Made Possible With Chemistry: Being ammonia free, some solutions have a very mild affect on your hair.
Avoid the Heat: Any hair that has been chemically treated should be subjected to as little heat as possible. Because heat, when combined with chemicals, can be highly damaging to your hair.
Perm Terror: You can mess up a perm easier than you might think. Doing dumb stuff like washing too soon or leaving the solution in too long, or attempting to perm hair recently colored are the stuff perm nightmares are made of. If you experience problems you should add moisture and probably protein. Trimming the ends offers relief for some. Those unlucky enough to fall into the worst case scenario end up having to cut off as much hair as they can stand and starting over.
Catch the Wave: Shirley Temple curls aren’t the only possible outcome. Think added body, more fullness, and great waves. What you end up with comes down to the tools and chemical potions used. For added fullness you want to see bigger rollers in your hair.
Little Known Perm Fact: How often you need to perm depends in part on how much length you’re dealing with. But typically those who perm do so perhaps three, maybe four times a year.
Don’t Try This At Home: Perming yourself at home isn’t for you if your tresses are in distress already. Nor if you’ve got scalp problems you’re tending to.
If Braving This At Home: Don’t ignore the shampoo that comes with your kit. It’s made with a neutralizing formula to help finish off the perming process and leave you with healthy hair.
What’s That Smell?: Yeah the most common complaint remains how your hair smells after that initial shampooing. Usually this problem goes away fairly quickly however.
The perm is back and better than ever using new and improved technology. Just take care if doing it yourself and maintain your hair with the right styling products afterward. If your hair is begging for a new look you may have found how to get it with a new perm.
