My Design For a Groom Wedding Speech

July 31st, 2009 by Nick Ellery

I always knew that when my fianc and I decided to get married I would have to write a groom wedding speech, but I never knew how important that speech was going to be! The truth is that I left it for weeks and weeks before I even realised that I was going to have to get down to it and actually write the thing.

Would you like my advice on this? Don’t do the same as I did; it will be a mistake. Think about the future and make a plan.

As you first begin to think about the groom speech, it might seem like a difficult undertaking. In any case, you already have so much going into standing in front of everybody to speak your vows, so doing it to give a speech is also pretty stressful!

As the date got closer and closer I tried to think of an inspirational, yet charming and hilarious grooms wedding speech and it just wasnt coming to me. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.

Now, believe me when I say that there are more efficient ways to plan a groom wedding toast, but this was great for kick starting my ideas.

It was hard at first, but as soon as I began using speech prompts and guides, I just started writing down tid bits of information about me and my bride. I wrote about how and where we first met, how long we’d been together, some of our best memories - little things like that. Writing about our relationship and what we had gone through together in the past truly helped me to put things into words for the speech.

In the beginning, it isn’t important to figure out what order you are writing everything in or what jokes you are going to insert. The things that will keep you from creating a wonderful speech is not writing it at all. Just by writing down some thoughts and ideas, I had taken a big first step in completing my groom wedding speech.
