Why do we pick the fragrances we do?

It is incredible to me how many choices there are when it comes to fragrances. Each with their own distinct scent and each very different. Each scent is one that will appeal to a certain customer whether it is a sweet or a bold scent they are looking for.
Each fragrance will appeal to a consumer in its own way based on how the scent is perceived by that person. So wha is it that drives a person to choose a specific scent?
With the massive selection of scents on the market most scent choices are narrowed down by the cost. The price range for fragrances vary as much as the fragrances themselves.
As the average middleclass American comprises the majority of the selections by designers like Ralph Lauren and Nautica ranging fom $10 to $100 dollars there is an extreme. The Imperial Majesty which list’s at near $215,000 per bottle I am sure is nice, only a few can afford. Scents by Chanel and Versace are near the mid-range of cost and are equally as nice.
The next decision to be made after the price range is established is simple. What does the fragrance actually smell like? How do we choose? The answer is simple yet complex. It is preferance or a persons “taste” that makes this decision. keep in mind though that what smells nice to one person may be offensive to another. Food tastes for example are another way to see how this is decided. It is all about an individual preferance.
Although there is no specific reason why people like what they like there does seem to be a few trends I find interesting. One of them is the cultural aspect. Like cultures tend to like the same scent. Another comparison trend is age. In each of these the aroma may be fruitier than another group or one is a little lighter aroma than another group.
In my opinion it all comes down to the natural tendency to just like what we like!
The bottom line is the best way to find your perfect fragrance is to try many samples in your price range and eventually you will find one that you like. After all, there is a huge variety on the market.
